Lore Merckx joined BexerHamstra as a consultant in January 2023. She took a master’s degree in Human Resource Studies from Tilburg University, the Netherlands, where she also worked as a research assistant. Before this, she completed a bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management at the Erasmus Hogeschool in Brussels, and specialized in Human Resources Management at the Thomas More Hogeschool in Mechelen, both in Belgium.

‘Using statistics and analysis to reach a solution is something I find really satisfying. I like structure. That’s why, within the wide gamma of my HRM studies at Tilburg University, I consciously chose to focus on reward policies. The best thing is combining analytical skills with social contacts, which is what I’m doing as a consultant. It fits me like a glove. I am a good listener and I can explain complicated matters clearly. This is something I noticed when, as a research assistant, I presented my findings to my university colleagues. It was immensely fulfilling. Additionally, I like the variation of helping clients and getting to know different companies.

For my master’s thesis I looked into the influence of individual and collective variable pay on absenteeism. For sick leave, there turned out to be a direct connection: employees with individual variable pay were absent much less than those with collective variable pay. Individual variable pay likely increases people’s sense of responsibility.

I’m really enjoying applying my theoretical knowledge in practice now, at BexerHamstra.
