‘What I’m good at, is explaining complex matters in an understandable way, and so getting everyone’s commitment. You may think up a nice-looking reward solution, but it’s the consequences for the employees that count. What is important for them? No solution is perfect for everyone, there are always pros and cons. So you have to put yourself in their shoes, think their thoughts, and make sure you have heard everyone. Often organizations are under time pressure and need to solve complex puzzles fast. It is then extra important to keep the interests of both employees and the company in mind. It’s wonderful if you can strike the balance; that is why I chose this line of work.
Our philosophy: we do this together with our client for they are Number One. I help clients, especially multinationals, design new reward policies. Such a new reward structure must fit their corporate strategy and their people, worldwide. Data analysis helps us make the right choices. For perceptions current in the organization – that too much or too little is paid, for instance – sometimes do not match reality. Data tells you what it’s really like. But in the end the most important thing is to sit down with people and talk it over. Numbers are only half the story.’
